Dear Partner,
At the time of this writing, Hurricane Katrina has brought havoc throughout Louisiana,
Mississippi, Florida and the eastern part of the United States. People are homeless,
foodless and some with loss of family. Gas and food prices are rising rapidly.
Polarization is the established and accepted order of the day (ethnicly, politically,
religously and socially).
The church is coming to its knees before God. Praises will be going up. True
love, compassion, unity and reality will find their way into the heart of the church.
Jesus Christ of Nazareth is Lord over the Church. Keep that in mind. It will help
to keep it sound. The President of the United States, George W. Bush, is a man.
He is subject to make mistakes as any other man. Our job is not to criticize him
or think of him more highly than we ought. One extreme is as bad as the other.
However, our job is to pray for him to receive wisdom and knowledge.
God spoke to King Abimelech about taking Sarah, Abraham's wife (Gen 20:3).
He was given an option to restore her or die (Gen 20:7). He restored Sarah along
with some gifts to Abraham (Gen 20:14). Abraham prayed for Abimelech. God healed
Abimelech, his wife, his maid-servants; and they bore children. The Lord had closed
all of the wombs of Abimelech's house because of Sarah (Gen 20:17-18). Fear drove
Abraham and Sarah into lying. They involved the King. I don't believe any God-fearing
man would desire for his wife to have sex with another man. Nevertheless, after
Abraham gave her away, I believe he went to God and poured out his heart for God
to speak to Abimelech. If God would speak to a heathen king, how much more will
he speak to a believing president.
The Lord Jesus spoke to Paul about persecuting the Church (Acts 9:1-5). The
encounter that Paul had with the Lord came as a result of believers praying. They
were in a place where they could hear from Jesus (Acts 9:10-20).
I believe it is scriptural to ask Jesus to talk to President George W. Bush about
restoring the land to Israel and not taking any more. We, as believers, desire and
pray for the peace of Jerusalem because it is His desire. The encounter can be good
for him, the nation and the world.
There are some natural things that we can do to help with the recovery effort of
Hurrican Katrina. Feed the Children, out of Oklahoma City, has been taking food and
clothing. They have already had trucks in Tulsa collecting provisions. There are
other organizations and churches involved in the restoration of the devastated areas.
Don't become anxious about any of this, but pray and be at peace. What and how
you are to be involved will flood your heart. Let the peace of God rule in your heart.
I love you,
George Moss
